Since 1988,
Habitat for Humanity of the NC Sandhills has
sold
171 homes to low income
families. Currently six
homes are in various stages of
construction.
It takes between six and ten months to build a
Habitat home. We are currently building houses
in Carthage and Richmond County in the
2009-2010 fiscal year.
We currently sell Habitat homes for between
$62,000 and $65,000, depending upon the location
of the home size of the home and lot size.
Habitat homeowners pay approximately $350 per
month for principal, insurance and taxes. Homes
are sold with zero interest. The mortgages are
no-profit and go into our Fund for Humanity that
enables us to continue building homes.
The average cost to build a Habitat home in
Moore County was $66,500 last year. This
includes land, infrastructure and all house
costs (except for staff, program and
administrative expenses. These funds are raised
separately).
In 2008 Habitat homeowners paid over $80,000 in
property taxes.
We build homes for families between 30% - 60% of
the Annual Median Income. Income ranges of
family qualifications are determined by family
size:
Families perform 300 hours of 'sweat equity' per
adult and attend 15 home ownership classes prior
to purchasing their homes.
The selection criteria are housing need, ability
to pay for the home and willingness to partner
with Habitat.
