DESCRIPTION:Join us October 22\, 2022 at 5:00 pm (check in/registration begins at 4:00 pm) at Fort Habitat (Sandhills Community College baseball diamond) where you will run through 2.2 miles of terror\, evading zombies at every turn. Your mission will be to deliver the lifesaving vaccination to put a halt to the zombie apocalypse\, ravaging the Sandhills. The fate of humanity depends on you! \nSCG Real Estate Solutions of Coldwell Banker Advantage\, in conjunction with Sandhills Community College is hosting a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity of the NC Sandhills’ Aging in Place Repair Program. You can help provide those critical repairs for the elderly and those who are physically disabled in our local area. \nThis is a non-timed zombie fun run\, where participants will wear flags that zombies will try and grab from you. Check in/registration will begin at 4:00 pm with the run starting at 5:00 pm. This course will be a mix of wooded trail running and an urban environment. Zombies will not be aggressive and will only go after your flag (they’re like brains to a zombie). Participants must be 12 years of age and older. No strollers or pets allowed. Costumes are encouraged.

DESCRIPTION:Habitat is proud to announce the return of our Women Build Committee! We are thrilled to have so many of you interested in this unique build to celebrate the empowerment of women. Our effort will not only create a home for a special family\, but it will serve as a reminder of what women can accomplish together. This home will be funded and constructed primarily by women and will provide a female-friendly worksite that empowers women to take leadership roles and learn new skills while building homes\, community\, and hope. The 2022 Women Build Committee is on a mission to raise awareness of the need for affordable housing in Moore County. The power and strength of women are amplified when we join together in a common cause and are inspired to go beyond our comfort zones. SUMMARY:Ashley's War Event with Two former CST Soldiers
DESCRIPTION:The Country Bookstore has put together a virtual event for all the women and men who bought tickets to the Women’s Build event that was schedule in 2020 but canceled due to Covid. This event is free in appreciation of your continued support. \nIn 2010\, the Army created Cultural Support Teams\, a secret pilot program to insert women alongside Special Operations soldiers battling in Afghanistan. The Army reasoned that women could play a unique role on Special Ops teams: accompanying their male colleagues on raids and\, while those soldiers were searching for insurgents\, questioning the mothers\, sisters\, daughters and wives living at the compound. Their presence had a calming effect on enemy households\, but more importantly\, the CSTs were able to search adult women for weapons and gather crucial intelligence. They could build relationships–woman to woman–in ways that male soldiers in an Islamic country never could. \nAshley’s War is about the pioneering women during a historic moment in our national narrative: the creation of the Cultural Support Team of women who enabled Special Forces missions in Afghanistan. These are not the first women in combat\, nor are they the first women to die in active duty. But they are the first women to be actively recruited to support elite Special Forces and to receive Special Forces specific training. Shelane Etchison and Amy Sexauer are no longer on active duty. After years of existing in the public eye under the pseudonyms in the book\, these women will be opening up about their experiences during this in-conversation event with Kimberly Daniels Taws of The Country Bookshop. \nAshley’s War is currently being adapted for the big screen by Reese Witherspoon and directed by Lesli Linka Glatter (”Homeland”). Molly Smith Metzler the screen writer for ”Shameless” and “Orange is the New Black” will be writing the screenplay.

DESCRIPTION:Be a part of something bigger! Meet us every third Wednesday of the month at 4:30 to help raise awareness\, funds\, and volunteers. We will be building a new home in Carthage for our Homeowner In-Progress (Hip) partner and veteran. Jessica is a single mom of two children determined to provide them with opportunities that will change their future. Our female veteran population is in need . According to a report by the National Housing Conference\, nearly half of our veterans who are single mothers spend more than 30 percent of their income on housing. Our female veterans face significant economic and housing challenges and are particularly vulnerable to housing cost burdens compared with our overall veteran population.
