Our affiliate has taken significant steps towards ensuring we can continue building affordable housing in the Sandhills. After receiving a transformative gift from philanthropist Mackenzie Scott in 2022 and months of searching for available land in our community, we secured 103 acres of beautiful property in Aberdeen, where we intend to build a mixed-income community to help meet the housing needs of nearly 300+ families who are helping to make our community a wonderful place to live and work.
The planned development will include new features in response to local employers seeking solutions to recruitment challenges. Many of our local businesses and municipalities recruit talent only to later be declined due to an inability to find housing in our community. We developed a concept to incorporate affordable home ownership with market-rate rentals on one property to engage newcomers and provide an intentional living environment that focuses on knowing your neighbor and giving back to your community.
At Habitat, we believe everyone deserves a safe, decent and affordable home. Families who partner with us build their own homes alongside volunteers, pay an affordable mortgage and are grateful for your help. We provide a hand up…not a handout by partnering with families who invest their time and energy to purchase a home.

We also provide critical home repairs to individuals 55+ or living with disabilities who own their home and are in need of affordable exterior repairs such as roof and window replacements or wheelchair ramps.

Habitat for Humanity of the NC Sandhills is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization and we have served nearly 1,000 families since our start in 1988 through new home construction, repair and tithe to our partner countries, Haiti and Zambia. We invite you to join us – our monthly orientations are held on the third Saturday of each month at 10am in our conference room located at 2268 NC 5 Hwy, Aberdeen. Thank you for building with us!
